Classic 103'12 introduced this board for their class during the session on Resilience. PSLs are to provide post-its for the Y1s and they are to write an encouraging message for their class which will be pasted on a board design by their PSLs saying “NEVER SAY NEVER!” This board will be pasted on the back of their class on the wall so that whenever Y1s are facing difficulties or struggles the board can be a reassurance to them that they have some one to rely on and that they should not give up so easily. From the classic: "I felt this was a really good idea, the board turned out really well and pretty, and it was filled with beautiful words from the class encouraging one another. It was left to be displayed at the back of the class and I think it was really nice to read and look at. The Y1s seemed to enjoy doing the board up as a class as well. " Classic 103'12 recommends using a skit to bring across the message on Peer Pressure & Bullying. Here's what they said: Their skit had the following points - Different forms of bullying - Handling bullying/peer pressure - Positive and negative peer pressure - Being a by stander - Having the courage to step forward and seek help So go ahead and write your own skit! Skits are really funny and will be remembered by the year 1s for a long time :) Classic 103'12 recommended this activity for the session on Self Management 1. Each Y1 (and PSL should they wish to join in) will fill in the blanks: “To be a responsible ____, I have to ____.” E.g. “To be a responsible RGS girl, I have to respect and follow the rules.” Each Y1 will share a different responsibility they hold. This way, they can see that an RGS girl has to juggle many commitments, and thus realise the importance of self management! 2. Boulders, rocks and pebbles activity: In this activity, boulders, rocks and pebbles will represent the responsibilities the Y1s shoulder. Y1s and PSLs will go in a circle to share their boulders (heavy responsibilities), rocks (less heavy responsibilities) and their pebbles (small responsibilities). 3. Y1s will draw a clock on a piece of paper and fill in a rough “timetable” of a typical day in their lives, including activities and work to be done (e.g. “3.00pm - CCA training”, “6.00pm - Tuition”, “9.00pm - homework”). This is to let the Y1s understand that there is a fixed amount of time each day and as such, they need to understand the importance of time management to balance out all their responsibilities well. Here's what the classic said after the activity! This activity was recommended by Classic 103'12. Here's what they said about the activity: 1. A short visualization exercise will be done with the class, with the lights switched off. I will ask them to close their eyes, take a few deep breaths and imagine their ideal class.
What would you like your class to be like? Bonded? Happy? Now that you have formed the image of your ideal class, think of how you as an individual can contribute to that ideal class. Think about how you can work towards that ideal class. Now imagine it is already November, the end of your term as a Sec One. How has your class been? Have you had a great year with your classmates? Do you feel a sense of belonging to the class? Do you love your classmates? 2. Year Ones will be given 5 minutes to write a letter to their future selves: 1) Their aspirations and goals for the class for the year ahead, the person who they want to be 2) How they can accomplish these goals and steps they can take 3) Obstacles and challenges they foresee, and how they can overcome them. 3. Year Ones would be assured that these letters are highly confidential (put it in a box) and they will be returned the letters in the last session to review and reflect if they’ve accomplished their goals. Remind them that they will have to actively work towards these goals, instead of merely setting them. Ultimately, we’re here to help them, and in order to gain as much as they can from these sessions, they themselves must put their all and really reflect. Change Change Change is a great energiser and is sure to get your class hyped up. It was recommended by Classic 104'12. 1. Arrange chairs to form a circle facing the inside. Everyone sits on one and leave one empty chair.
2. One of the PSLs will be standing in the middle who tries to sit on the chair. In order to prevent that, the people on the chairs have to move together in one direction (anti-clockwise/clockwise) to occupy that one seat. 3. When it’s the person’s turn to sit on the empty chair, she can shout “CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE” and the direction would change. Body Positions is a evergreen ice breaker that can be used for any occasion, or even as a filler. It was also a game that Classic 104'12 used for their Mission Impossible Activity (Self Management)
