Sometimes it just isn’t your day or your week, and suddenly all of life’s daily obstacles, the problems that you usually handle without blinking an eye seem to have the power pull you down and make you want to give up on everything. Everyone feels and makes you feel vulnerable, sad, and lonely from time to time but if you know how to cheer yourself up, then you’ll get through many of those tough moments just fine. In fact, you’ll learn to appreciate the sad moments because when you experience them, you know you’re alive and life has both ups and downs. That’s what makes life so great. 10 Tips for de-stressing and |
1. Smile and just laugh! Life doesn't always have to be taken so seriously. Turn your dramatic day into a joke of your own. It'll make you a stronger person to be able to face it, laugh about it (while cringing) and move on. Or if that isn’t possible, look into the mirror and give yourself a gigantic smile. By doing so, you’d realise how ridiculous you look and you’ll start smiling naturally!! Studies have shown that smiling and laughing relaxes your body and makes you feel less stressed. | Smile! |
3. Smell coconut/any other aroma !
This one is strange, but proven to be true! Studies show that smelling coconut is an instant mood booster. Maybe you could walk down to a nearby bakery and smell the aroma of baking bread ! It really helps to calm yourself.
4. Visualise a peaceful, pleasant or ideal place
Sounds simple (and it is), but this can really help! Imagine a location you love, or look at beautiful scenery. Even if you can’t physically get there, a mini mental vacation will bring you closer to your happy place and cheer you up!

5. Be active: Any kind of activity will instantly boost your mood. For example, bake cookies to share with your friends and family. Or just dance! Turn the music on and start dancing to get your endorphins going. As you exercise, your brain releases endorphins or ‘Happy hormones’ that cheer you up instantly! Remember, happy music only! |
6. Get organized:
Getting clutter out of your space is a perfect way to de-stress. Cleaning out the clutter in your home can be related to cleaning out the clutter in your mind. Stop reliving the embarrassing moment, and just sweep it all away. You can even write down a list of what you have to do- without a proper plan, it’s harder to get things done, you might forget things, and you might think there’s more that you need to do than there actually is. Once you're done organizing, your life will seem much easier to handle!
7. Use your mind:
Keep your mind occupied by doing a difficult puzzle, riddle, crossword, anything that makes you think! There are plenty free puzzles online. Rather than moving around and occupying your body, sit down and use your mind. As you work through the difficult puzzles, you start to relax and forget about your bad day.
8. Pamper yourself:
Treat yourself to a day of pampering. Try not to make up excuses for your purchase/time off and instead tell yourself you deserve it.

9: Give back: Spending your time giving back to others is a great way to change your mood and attitude. It's difficult to grumble about your boring school and gossipy friends when seeing people with no homes or families. It's a great way to put your life into perspective and to appreciate what you do have. You can also give back by small ways- help friends with homework,, spend time with the girl who needs someone! There's only good from giving back! |
10: Indulge in your gratitude: Make a handwritten list of everything in your life you are grateful for. When things are looking bleak, it may be difficult to think of things you are happy about in your life, but there will always be things to be happy about- small or big. Then, you can see just how much you have to be thankful for, and your blues will have gone away.. Why don’t you start making a happiness jar? Put little notes of things to be thankful for inside and take one out whenever you feel down. You’ll feel much better after! |
With these tips, just remember that regardless of all the obstacles you face now, molding yourself to be stronger, more optimistic and more resilient will be sure to banish your worries. Well, what doesn’t kill you make you stronger right? One bad day won’t ever get you down!
